I'm a stats kind of girl. I like to know numbers and demographics, and I judge myself in comparison to other people based on them. I will look for blogs, writings and videos by other people who are trying to lose wieght, and when their stats don't match mine, I'll dismiss them. It isn't the right attiutude, but when someone is telling you that you can overcome your struggles, there is an instinct, I think, to want to know that they have actaully experienced your degree of struggle.
So, here are my stats:
I started this journey of battling the inertia of my life at 38 years old, 5'5" (and-a-half), and 361 pounds. In the past, my weight has been as high as 380 and as low as 255, although that "low" literally only lasted a day, before I ended that diet and started to climb right back up. My "stasis" is around 360.
My goal for this site is not to act as anyone's teacher or authority, whether in weight loss or any other battle of overcoming, but rather share my experiences, struggles, and successes in real time, as the journey unfolds. Because as I sit here today, I don't know where I will be a year from now, or five years from now. I am planning to undergo bariatric surgery, but when I started this I hadn't done it yet, and it may well not have happened. And if that be the case, I will share it with you. If I do have surgery and suffer complications after, I will share it with you. Nothing will be kept secret, and my hope is that by sharing both the good AND the bad, someone else might benefit from my experience. I am also hoping that others who have overcome in the battle to truly change their lives in some way might share their experience with me, because I could use the inspiration!
In addition to being a career fat person, I am also a 911 operator/dispatcher, a cat mom, and a dog lover. I am also an evangelical Christian, mixing a hardcore conservative theology, with the lack of "churchiness" of an adult convert. I know Church-speak well enough by now that I could speak it fluently if I had to, but it is not my first language, in the manner of so many Church folk who grew up and live their whole lives immersed in faith. Even so, this is a strong part of my identity that does show up in my writing and videos, and I'm always happy to answer questions or engage in conversations about faith, if you want to send me an email!
